Re: reefs
sounds like you were at the eurojack reef north of the pier like you stated. if so, take a look at the bottom where u were fishing at.
best thing to do is buy a waterproof top spot chart for the lauderdale area. it will show you reefs(including artificual) and give you numbers to the main spots, not the secret ones.

Re: reefs
Sad that is a great looking artifical reef and no real life on it at all.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Reefs
EuroJack Reef.
Thank you for the videos provided, they were another eye opener for me, I hope this Summer helps the reef without further undue hurricane pressures.
Let's not forget this reef is close to shore and therefore difficult to maintain proper fish feeding habits year round with future migrations.
Nontheless, it's nice to know there is something close to the shore worthwhile in hopes of another day.

Yes and No. Hollywood Beach spans a good distance along Broward.surfjetjoe wrote:can u take your kayak off of hollywood beach with out trouble from lifeguards?
May I suggest launching your Yak from Meade Street just North of Sheridan St. and south from Dania on A1A.
The Lifeguards are aware of this public access not known by many.
You may be interested in saving a few bucks in parking if you go the the boat ramp in JLloyd.
It's up to you, GoogleMap the area and decide.

I'll go out on a limb and say that spot sees a lot of spearers.

After further review of the aerial photo, it seems you're very close to my watering hole.fixed80 wrote:got a map for ya surfjetjoe. use it to find new locations and reefs near shore. ill start the map off hallendale beach and you can move the map from there. use the bird eye tool for location findin.surfjetjoe wrote:yea thanks man looks like a good area with good rock formations

You've got a long ways to go before you beat me to the fish near Hally Dally.
See ya out there!

Re: reefs
Just find those eurojacks, swim to the deep end of them, then about a block or two further... and turn north... for about a mile
I'd go to the first reef in the park hauling a small inflatable with a cooler...
I've seen good muttons, big hogs that always cruise in pairs, on rare occasions I've seen a grouper or two. If you're an ornamental collector, bring your nets, plenty of angelfish and butterflies. Winning!

Re: reefs
I went to the jax a few years back, in May. Speared five fish in total, one was a really nice snapper of some kind, a few porgies, and one really nice Hog. Problem was, a shark came and took all my fish. My fault, I should have had something to take them out of the water. We all swam the F#*@ out and let him have it, there was some serious commotion in the water, it looked like there were two on it. The fish were in a mesh bag so they were really trying to get at the catch. Major drag. But there was a lot of life there on that particular trip. Apparently you can't go in directly form the shore to the jax with a spear, you have to enter the water from further south and swim that direction.
