Long week
Just got back from the keys the other day. we did pretty well as you can see. Shot that cobia off the back of this nasty bull. Missed a few big fish, but all in all was a good trip.

Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

How come you didn't spear that Hammerhead? I guess it wouldn't have fit in the cooler. You are a bravo soul to be in the water with that monster.

Re: Long week
There were 4 of us...3 in the water and 1 on the boat. two days of shooting. The cobia was 34 and the black we didnt measure , but weighed about 12-15lbs . ya we wathced our limits, but i dont think any of us thought we got close to it. was a pretty sick trip.
And for those who think we took more than we really should have, the state of Florida has to disagree with you. If they thought otherwise they would have changed the limits. and im sure they will end up doing that in the near future.

Nice haul. But how do you get a good estimate of a fish when its in the water before you shoot it? What if that cobia had turned out to be 1 1/2 inches shorter after you shot it, and then it would've been illegal?# one wrote:The cobia was 34 .

Re: Long week
Well adding to the previous question, Do limits even apply to spear fishing?
I mean well you cant measure a fish before you kill it?
Also nice report good haul.

Yes limits definitely apply. I have always been taught, and gone by the rule that if there is any doubt, don't shoot it.MoJo wrote:Well adding to the previous question, Do limits even apply to spear fishing?

Yep, i agree with PhishingPhanatic. if you even consider not shooting this fish when you first spot it then its best that you dont. some fish allow you to get up close and then you can size emm up better, but usually you know if it will measure up. i am not going to lie though, i have unknowingly shot a few fish that were under, but these days that does not happen much at all. ITs all about experience.

thats the beauty of the keys... you can run 3+ miles out and still only be in 15ft of water...
