I think I'll go with the small gold hook under a float. Sounds easier to handle!

Re: Deerfield Pier Fishing Reports 2009 "ONLY REPORTS"
I would be careful with those goldies and squid if you're not interested in runners while fishing for hoos.
BTW.....if a man were to live off of macks...and only macks....he would have been set up for all of 2010 today....ridiculous. OR if said man is interested in Bonies...he would have made out like a bandit (a disgusting bandit...but just my opinion)
Gogs. Ballyhoo. AND SO MANY Dinies.....THICK....super thick. Not too much interest in the hoos...although some were getting hits on trollies. Otherwise, freelining a sardine would pretty much guarantee a mack on 1 in 3-4 throws.
Curious to read reports coming in from this evening.

I had lunch at JB's with the office today - Watched the seagulls diving and the baitbuckets pulling rope to the N Pretty hard - Combination of bait and current usually mades for a great day -Jwright1 wrote:I would be careful with those goldies and squid if you're not interested in runners while fishing for hoos.

Re: Deerfield Pier Fishing Reports 2009 "ONLY REPORTS"
Went there last night, 8:00pm -2:00am. Low tide was extremely low at the time. Activity was fairly slow. Lots of hoos biting on sabiki rigs. I kept getting Moonfish hooked on the sabiki all night. Saw people catching a couple of Snappers, medium size bluefish. One person caught a bonito at the T.
Finally was taught how to set the rig properly on the live bait to catch the good ones, so am hoping to do that in the upcoming days.

Here's the pics...wife was on the camera and should have gotten better pics of my sail...hard to get around everyone, though.
Some say 7 1/2 ft on the sail...but not sure about all that, in retrospect. Over 50# I can say for sure.

Fished yesterday from 5-10. Hoos were around for the most part while I was there. Got a short Mutton right off the bat, but didn't get anymore hits on bottom after that. Started throwing an x-rap got 3 macs in about 10 minutes then they shut off. Not much happened after that.

Re: Deerfield Pier Fishing Reports 2009 "ONLY REPORTS"
Been over a month since I have gotten a wet line. To busy with school and basketball so since I was free decided to break the streak.
Fished from 6:45am - 1:00pm
The morning bite was slow with no bait but pinfish and sand perch. A short cobia came over on a live runner on bottom 10 minutes within the time I got there. I threw my X-Rap till about 10:30 and managed to get a mack. Another local caught a nice mack around 6-7lbs an a trolly.
It was come and go for the rest of the day for me with a mix of runners and some throwback macks. Better baits came in including goggle-eyes, cigar minnows, and ballyhoo. Then out of the blue, this curious little sailfish about 50lbs or so decides to come in literally 5-10ft from the pilings and sucks up one of the baits. Couldn't get a shot of the fish in the air, but got one of him eating the bait off the trolly.
Pretty cool stuff to see. Also, heard of a dolphin lost yesterday as well so I guess the pelagics are moving in for some reason.
As I left I was seeing some sardines caught and someone lost a mogan Cuda. Nice day to say the least.

Cholo caught that Dolphin.
Beautiful fish. Lots of loose lines and terrible wind...just couldn't get him gaffed in time.
The following storm was ridiculous....RIDICULOUS.
Under the hut resembled a mound of dead bodies.
