Fished from around noon till 6:30 out on the T.....

Lots of showers passing thru but for the most part they were short and it was back to fishing.... pretty windy so live lining small baits for the Macs was tough but could be done in between when the wind picked up with a shower....

Heard of a Bonita or two before I got there....of course lots of runners ( add the Houndies to the runners beating the Macs to your baits and you have one more reason Macs were tough) Here is what I saw caught during my time there....only a few small Cero's .... several keeper Muttons, couple keeper 'Tails and at least 3 limits of keeper Grovers along with lots of shorts. One ladyfish...one Tarpon hook up, and of course several Snook. Bait was solid as has been the case all summer.

Current was South bound

Last shower before I left spawned a small water spout South of us....kinda cool

I went out on the beach for night fishing near Dania Pier on Saturday night. I got there around 8:45pm and set up camp south of the pier but only to realize through some guys on the pier I have to be 150 feet away from the pier to fish. So I packed up and moved down. I didn’t bring bait because I wanted to try out my sabiki rig to see if I can catch some bait. After 15 mins of straight seaweed I gave up quickly and sent my fishing buddy to go get bait at the pier. I knew that it might be good activity in the water since it was strong incoming tides. After about another hour of nothing but seaweeds, I was close to giving up seeing that the water was getting rougher to just stand in. I decided to give it one last toss before packing up and than WAM!!! ZIPPPPPPPPP my line was singing. I buried my feet in the sand and begin the fight. After over a five minute fight that only felt like 30 seconds I had a snook at my feet. At first my fishing buddy thought it was a nurse shark but when I went up close to it and saw the black line from the gill racing to the back tail I know it was a snook. She wanted me to keep since it was our first big fish we have caught but snook season was four days away so it would have been illegal. So it was a catch and release. I can’t wait to go up to my favorite spot in WPB for Labor Day fishing!!! The picture is grainy because that was taken with cell phone and had to do some editing to make it fit on here but I'm still proud of my first snook!!

Thanks and yes I just read that in a another forum. It is all good though I wouldn't keep a snook anyway. Not the fish I would like to eat. BTW how do they taste?

White flaky meat. Very tasty but not as good as Snapper.

8) Snook is over rated on the plate. But, one of the tops in fighting a fish.

Love eating snook. Get those two medalions of meat under the gill plates and eat them right when I catch them as a sushi sampler.

Report for Thursday 9/2/10

Hit the pier around 9 AM.... Ya I slept in so sue me ....

Light west wind that later went Easterly and picked up to around 15 or so...
Current was light South but got stronger with the tide change and then dropped off later in the day...

Well it was Houndy city again which made it hard for the Mac's to get to your bait first.... but there were still several caught for those that worked through all the Houndy chewed up baits.... Two weighed 7 and 7.5 on my digital scales ( caught by others... my big one managed to find the mono leader after running out 30 or 40 yards of line )

Did pick up a very nice keeper Yellow tail on a bait that beat the Houndy's, Bluerunners and Mack's to the bottom.... Oh did I mention Bluerunners.... all you could want and then some.... I even changed from live bait when the Hondy's were extra bad and put on a small white jig and filled up my Asian friends bucket.... They are actually quite a bit of fun on a light rod with 4lb line....

A few other Muttons were caught with a few being keepers.... did not see any Grovers but only one or two looked to even be trying for them....

Had a Tarpon eat a free lined runner but spit the hook before he even jumped once...

Jason was working over the Snook with 3 or 4 netted and released out of 6 or so hook ups.... all were 40 plus inch slobs...

Unfortunately one of the Bluerunner crowed would not head the 3 hook max for runners and had to have a BSO escort off the pier..... Maybe now the word will spread among those that claim to not speak English...

Working the next couple of days and will probably spend Labor day with family so should be back Tuesday unless I take the Yak out.

Called it a day around 7 PM

A few years ago FWC actually passed out fliers at the pier about 3 hooks. Call tallahassee. I'm about ready to tell the Viets 'no hooks' allowed if they keep trashing the pier. I'm tired of their lack of respect with their garbage everywhere.

Never heard of such a thing either, but I can understand why some may start a rumor.

You could never enforce such a gear regulation who's to say they are fishing for Blue Runners, Sabikis would be outlawed then, Please don't tell me your that gullible.

8) I never said a thing about sabikis. It was about baited hooks.

As long as there is no Squid, shrimp etc tiping them..... 12 foot long rigs bring slung around by googins on 12 foot rods in the middle of a runner bite are quite dangerous....

On a positive note I saw 4 of the nicest ( read you did not even have to think about weather they would measure...) Muttons caught by the same guy this AM.... add a 14 inch Grover and he had a nice mess of Snapper....

8) 8lb & 6lb Muttons this morning. Other snaps too. A few Yellowtails this afternoon. Runners, afternoon Macks, and the future dinners with a stripe cruising the pier.
Bait still solid. Good size school of Mullet passed thru this afternoon.

A load of small Bluefish showed up today in the late afternoon. Those 12 to 15 inch skinny ones that come early when a storm goes up the coast. No idea what was caught earlier. Snook and bait are mainstays every day around there.

So a fourth hook on a pompano rig is out? What if that fourth hook had a plastic sand flea on it?

8) Yesterday, Snook and Runners. Some small Macks. Not sure how the Snapper were. Hurricane "Clear out the pier" came thru in the late afternoon and the packed pier became empty. Only a few out there in the drizzle when I left. Bait was still solid.
