I was out on Saturday and bait was thick- huge schools of gogs brushing through. I was fishing crabs off the front with no takers i.e. Permit .... not even a puffer. Had a few lost crabs from crabs eating crabs. Saw a few blue runners come up. I started the mormning in =Juno and it was kind of dirty and slow so I moved down to LW with no luck at either spot on Staurday for me.

Boca Jetty Rat,
Have you tried the boyton beach... near the inlet (I think the inlet is still closed) on out going tide at night? I have done very well with the permit there, and May/June have always been my best months. :fish:

"Permit53" I never fished in the Boynton inlet. Where are you talking about because I would give this spot a try. If the inlet is closed are you talking about the beach area? PM me if you want. I am defenitely on the hunt for Permit. Thanks

Just remember the Permit will start their spawn around this time. Most of the Permit will be offshore until after the spawn. You will pick up a few here and there but would be slow bite. You never know if you can catch one if you don't have a crab out. :D Maybe we can do a trade. Your first Permit for my first big Cobe. What you think? :D

Hit the pier for the first time today from about 10-1, was looking for gogs for my Tortugas trip. No gogs, just tons of sardines and cigar minnows. I wasn't equipped for much serious fishing, just had a couple bait rods and a bottom rod to throw out while I was catching bait. A cobe swam by, I kept waiting for someone to throw to it but no one seemed to see it, I was surrounded by a bunch of googans and I was the only one with polarized glasses. The only spinning rod I had was my Sustain 3000 with 10 lb braid and 12 lb leader, I tied the biggest bucktail I had and pitched it in front of the cobe and sure enough he nailed it about 15 feet from the pier, then made a beeline straight in and cut me off on the pilings...was over in about 10 seconds. Was my first cobe hookup from the pier, pretty cool, I can see how that can be addictive.

Decent sized, 6" or so. Definitely not micro-baits. They were not sabiking up too easily though, even though they were thick enough to walk on under the pier.

Size 3 red...anything else seems to produce squat (far as dines are concerned). Granted..I'm not a big "Ohh this color and ahh that color" or OHH this brand or ohh that brand. Also, not a "Need this rod or I cant catch that fish kinda guy...but, number 3 red for the dines.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but i've been using the red Mustad that is about a size 3(they go by different #'s) and I can't get a damned bait for nothing. I usually buy the Hyubasa or whatever, but they were out.

I buy those #4 in the "florida" sabiki for ballyhoo and perch, as they're cheap..bound to break and the baits don't seem to mind.

But, when we're talking dines, cigs and such...I just feel as though GREEN, #3 ,and Hyabusa is ALL that produces.

But, regardless of color or brand, I just NEVER get dines and cigs on 4s..they're just too big.

Been fishing the LWP pretty hard this summer. Bait finally showed up this past month and snook and runners are hearding it up.

Pier hours 7am-9pm kinda...no not kinda...they really suck. On a clear blue day, you've got 2 hours in the morning and 2-3 hours before close when there's action. In between, if you're lucky you get hit.

So, it's #2 or 3 wire for bottom rigs and trollys and florocarbon leader for the freeliners and snappers.

The usual summer fish coming over the rails: runners, cudas, snook, snapper, bonita, kings, tarpon.

:reeling: :reeling: :reeling:
