11/3 report

got there at about 5:00pm and caught about 6 keeper macks. then i tried to get some bait for night time kings as a result of the wind a full moon. Also tried live shrim for snapper and on;y a few small taps and nothing major. at about oh 8:00 romaninan John caught about a 23in king on a live runner on bottom and then several people were cut off including myself. then the massive Gugan convention came and due to lack of patience i had to leave at 11:00 pm

DEERFIELD PIER SUNDAY REPORT

Post by pompanopier »

Due to high wave action, not to metion high fishing and parking fees at Angln's, chose to fish Deerfield Sunday.(Figured $4.00 total fee was worth it. Despite high wave action stayed perfectly dry
Ended up with several, nice pompano and tons of bluefish. If you like to catch small blacktips they were everywhere. Also a few keeper muttons and yellowtails.

Got there around 10am today. Caught a bunch of undersized muttons. Threw them back, each time allowing the two "gentlemen" fishing next to me to hook them again and keep them. These low-lifes knew they were breaking the law and didn't give a damn.

There was a shark double-header hookup on the T, looked like small Blacktips.

That's about it for the fishing.

Oh, and the Wildlife Patrol arived hours later after those ocean-rapers had already left, but they did manage to bust an old man who had a cane and claimed he couldn't see well enough to throw back the tiny muttons in his cooler.

It would be nice, if the wildlife Conservarion Dept. posted warning signs about undersized fishing on the piers, to stop those ''ocean-rapers" from depleting the future stocks. I've seen this one guy over at Anglins who caught a 9" mutton, measured it on our cooler rule, looked around and dumped it in his cooler. (where is 5O when you need them :) Now if ten people catch 5 undersized fish per day, then what type of future fishing can we expect. Just my two cents.

Good for you Robbie, keep posting this stuff on small fish because I am sure it will get some attention from people who can do something about.

Walked on deerfield this morning to look. Not much action. Only saw 1 keeper mango, moonfish, runners and a couple aj's. Water was crystal and calm with no current. a trickle of n/nw wind. small pods of gogs/cigs for bait.

Nice job robbie, I bet u they won't be doing that again :). I'll also have to save the FWC's number on my cell just for people like that.

And about putting up the warning signs, is that something that the city would handle or the FWC?????

There's also a toll-free number for reporting violations:

Wildlife Alert: 888-404-3922

It's true that they are understaffed so be prepared to be put on hold.

11/11/06 calm and dead

Post by oceanorange »

Was out today, from 5 am to 9 am, Gogleeyes and blue runners, too large for bait? But no macks chaising my artificials. I don't use live bait, and had nothing chasing or hitting of keeper size.

Water was green clear, low tide, no wind, very slow current towards North side of the pier. Too Calm for me.. the pier was not crowded though, so that was a plus..

Walked the pier this AM with my Wife and daughter - Hard to fish...lol Was there beween 9 and 11 - DEAD current slow action.....However had a feeling macs were about as the needles were and w all know they like to run together. Actually saw a short strike on a Redhead gotche right next to me. Unfortunatley the guys Ugly Stick Slipped apart at the break on the retrieve....Bad lluck as the mac was hitting close enough to watch it, however the splash drove him off.....daughter got crazy so had to go. I bet there will be reports of Macs on arti's today -conditions looked like they were about to. improve out there. Plenty of silver flashes in the water, out of the Nside

On a side mote -Today was a PERFECT Kayak day - SEAS were dead calm - Could have paddled 3 mi out easy!

...lol ya, that was me. I keep testingto see when she is gonna be old enough to take.....NOT yet. :)

Did not know it was you -still do not, really, as my daughter had her hands in EVERY bait bucket from the Sandbar to the T.

I am very sorry if she was a bother, but she was so enchanted with not only the fish in the buchet, but actally started dancing and laughing when the Pelican's came close. I am SO wrapped around her little finger.

She was quite frustrated as nobody there really had any Fishies in their baitbuckets...

Were you the guys that camped at Jonathan Dickenson State Park last night with the mullett in the Yellow topped bucket?

I was bummed because consitions looked good for Spanish Macs and I had no Gotcha's left ( Lost the last one WED)

Did any come up? It was kinda ironic cuz most folks were snapper fishing on a day with Zero current or wind and Gin Clear Water....NOT real good Snapper conditions, but when I saw those big houndfish start cruising, I switched to the White X-Rap...By then my lil girl had enough and it was time to pack it in.....That is when the Big Mac followed the kid with the gotcha. I really wanted to stay, but My girl was definately ready for nap.

I am not too familiar with the rules and Times or this pier.

Do they sell live bait ?
Crabs of any kind ?
Are they 24 hours ?

$4.00 including Parking ( if you can find some ) was the deal.

I dropped by on Wed to cast a few X-raps to the Macs ( yes they were out - I had a few snaps and follows) in the middle of all the snapper fisherman and there was a big googan convention out on the T. especially when a small school of 'dines roamed a bit close...

Hey, I am no pro by a LOOONG, Looong shot, but I do know better than to try to fish 6# test bottom rigs off the T, wondering why I am tanglin everyone up....lol

Kinda lousy too, as there were macs chasing my yozuri, but the combination heavy wind and PP line hept lifting it to the top of the waves and out of the water. Off the T - There was a scool of Sardines getting harasses, that could have gotten me a few strikes, but ya, I agree, nbo way was I heaeded intothat mess....AND it was WED.
Still a good way to spend lunch. May just mosey on down today at 1P to get a look see.

I imagine the googs will be running thick on Sat AM as well, as this is the only pier around that is open.

Man, Pompano Pier got thick on the T alot, but most of the folks that knew the pier casted to where the Snapper were and the others to the rocks...never much of a a problem....:) In fact if you wanted Mac, you fished a differend place.....usually nobody there either.

I kinda had a plan in mind to fish Pre dawn and Dawn hours trying to hit the surfline taking some advice and soaking some fleas for pomps and a crab or two for a roaming permit if they were about....I DID want to try to freeline a big gog or runner off the T in hopes of a passing king....might be a tough thing to do Saturday huh ?.....:(

No drinking is a small PIA, but not a deal killer as I will usually not suds it up in the AM anyway....lol However on an all nighter it is nice to have a few cold ones IMHO....

As far as the undersize Mutts, like I said before, I am a dad, so no fighting anymore....Bail is just too $$....lol

I have caught a few kings off Pompano Pier before...I just did not want to get into a pissing contest. I DO like Trolley Rigging Bigget baits, but am unsure of the underwater geography of Deerfield. Maybe you could help me tomorrow to choose a good pattern provided we have a shot at some real estate at the "T".

I actually had to delete the first response I wrote. I may have taken gotcha's comment wrong and possibly responded out of kind....so I rewrote it a bit more appropriately...

Sometimes things can be taken out of context and since I am quite a goodheartedly natured Wise*ss by nature, I am sure Gotcha did not mean to be confrontational by his quip.

In actuality, chances are small of getting a roving King tomorrow but since I have gotten where I am in life by not playing the safe odds, but rather trying, failing, then trying again after I fix what component I think failed, I will prolly try Tomorrow for kings a bit anyway...
The road to success is paved with failure. Ask ANY millionare that has made his own $$.

Gulf stream looks like it is dipping AWAY from us stomorrow so the greatest concentrations of pealgics will more than likely be off shore quite a bit, but good bait pods can bring em away from the stream in greater numbers.

Well I think the best place to fish off the T is right along the Right corner, thats where I have seen alot of kings taken. Buth thats usually the place that as soon as a spot is open somebody on the T moves into it hoping to eventually get the Corner
