Times are lean, my Brothers of the salt water planks! Fished Pompano today from sunup till about nooner. NNW Winds around 10-15 made the 46 degrees feel more like 38. I actually had a flannel hoodie on under my windbreaker hoodie, and I swear, a pair of longjohns would have been real useful today. I kept one hand in my pocket at most times. Ever tried fishing one-handed? Anyway, I don't know if this is a fishing report or a complaint: One trigger fish! That's it! I was the first and only guy on the pier for the first hour, not counting, joggers and sightseers, who were few. Water was flat, clear and the current was running north-ish at about a knot. Tide was out but rising. Weird combo of conditions. Ballyhoo were there but wouldn't even come to the chum bag. Without live bait, I had some belly strips from some macs from a long time ago, and I both floated them and used a bank sinker on two separate rods. Weird part is, the trigger fish I got was on....what else......my Sabiki!! He was 14 inches and after a few other dudes showed up, one guy wanted it because he said his friend was going to show him how to cook and prepare it to eat. So, I made a donation. As far as I know, that was the only catch up until I left. Looks like I'm gonna have to go to the Channel 2 bridge to make up for my losses, eh? I'm ready, dudes! Tight lines (Yeah, right.) Out!

Was at the pier today from 5 to 7. About 5 min after we got there, my girlfriend caught this hog on live shrimp. Nothing else the rest of the day.

Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Its been a while since i have been fishing due to health reasons amoung others. I usualy go shark fishing for the most part and dont get involved in anything else. I have decided to expand my horizon's and hit pompano pier at night, while soaking a big bait. Dose any one have any tips on rigs or baits to get the best results for the other species. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

I got a question about Pompano too. Is there a lot of rocks reefs around it that one should know about before slinging long distance lead?

It's one of the worst places for loosing weights. The bottom must be covered with lead!

South side of Pompano - bottom fishing with weight or freelines when wind is N/NE/NW, north side - only freelines, there are many of rocks there, and east side - freelines too, otherwise bring alot of replacement weights.

Dania - almost same, except T part on south has rocks (shore side - no rocks, but no "real fish").

Commercial - rocks everywhere, except T north and parts closer to biteshop.

Deerfield - rocks only on middle north and south - evrywhere else bottom is OK.
