i've been destroying the spadefish lately and i have caughten over 10 in the 2-3 [pound range. i knoow its stinks but there really isnt anything else out there right now. i did manage to get a 6 pound sheepshead out of the water but it managed to straighten my hook and swam slowly back to the pilings  btw i dont know what other peoples opinions are but i actually enjoy the taste of spades. lol hopefully next week will be better. :reeling:

When I was living in Virginia i would go spade fishing around the CBBT and we have caught them in the 7-9lb range. The are by far one of the hardes fighting fish for their size, and damn good to eat! :toast:

Maybe small snappers.

these spades wern't big enough to be amazingly fun but with a light ugly stick and a 1/2 ounce weight it was a blast idk y no one else was trying it they were everywhere. and yes a 5 pound spade is a better fighter than a 5 pound snapper in my opinion but i'd rather have snapper :chef:

got a change to got fishing so I try my luck.
fished 25Jan2011 from 9:45-11:40
- Winds 20 ESE
- wave was break about half of the pier.
- fish on the south side about half way out.
nothing, NO runner, NO blue fish.
- the dam craps are still around.
- there were about four people on the pier including myself when I got down.
- check around there were 3 gentlemen when I left.
The condition look good for BLUE fish but no show.

8) What did the craps eat? How big were the craps? We are thinking of heading up there soon to catch crap. What is the limit on crap anyways? I see plenty of them posted in here.

I'll probably get in trouble for telling this secret, but the best bait for the craps is Taco Bell. 2 tacos and a Nacos Supreme and you'll be getting all the craps you want in no time.

8) Sounds like I could fill a cooler full of crap up that way.
With the wind, they should smell the crap coming. Better get a head start.

Based on my ongoing experience with them, calling before noon and getting a report is more reliable then afternoon. When they "pass over" the morning report into second shift - the morning "fishing action" is usually inflated unless there is some activity going on when you call.

Makeral, jacks, runners,ladysish and blacktips.
Nothing is thick just here and there on gotchas and diamond jigs.
I did land a black tip on a spoon thatg was about 50-60 pounds.
I thought it was funny I didn't get tail cut and then I relized he was hooked in the peck fin.
Pretty windy out there but the water looks good.

Calm and cool out there tonight. Only fished 7:30 till 8:30. One ~ 20# tip on cut sardine. Used two small yellow floats with 3 red beads on line just above hook to keep bait off the bottom away from the crabs. Beads help keep float far enough away from hook to let fish get the hook and not lock down on the floats. Everyone else getting crabs.

I answer my own question:
fished 9:30pm - 3:00am 29Jan2011
- 0-1 NW wind
- 6inch wave
- croaker was eating on good quality shrimp, so if your shrimp is old , no go.
- my brother got one blue fish.
- the crap is all about gone still some hanging closer to the first house.
- there were some shark around.

How big are the crabs and what type? Ghost, Calico or blueclaw? If they're blueclaw, I'll take my traps up there and give it a shot.

Sunday 2/13

Report was a few Pomps in the AM so I decided to give it a shot.

Fished from around 1 PM to around 5 PM

I caught 2 Pomps and lost one more on the flip.... biggest was a touch over 2 lbs.... Saw 3 others caught during my shift out of around 30 plus lining the rail doing the Goofy jig thing. Mine all came on a old style mylar Pomp jig.

Also a half doz or so Crevies, and another half doz or so Small runners. couple of Ladyfish and Blue fish.... Did see quite a few Blues coming over the side on out on the Tee on cut bait. ( I was fishing North side....close to the shore side of the 2nd hut).

Did see a couple of Spinners or Tips but not as many as expected. I soaked a live Runner for a couple of hours on the big rod and had no takers.

Wind was Stout probably 15 to 20 out of the North, water was a good Pomp color.

All in all a good day of Fishing and a so so day of catching.
Rick
