Re: Dania Pier Fishing Reports 2008 "ONLY REPORTS"
I went there from 7:45am till 3:45pm but not too much action.
Genaro got 1 A.J, and many sharks....
I got cutoff more than 5 times, but anyway, no bait at the T, some Mojarras close to the house, I see 1 pompano at some guy cooler.
Other guy catch 2 snappers------ 1 was 16 flat I mesured it at my cooler rule, the other one may be bigger.
I recommend him to put the 16 inch flat back to the water, he run to his cooler because it will be smaller at the ice.
well that's it

Hey! So I went fishing last nite from about 5pm-8pm. i left cuz it started to sprinkle rain. I used some frozen squid because i heard there was no bait. I didnt see people catch much. I did catch a good size fish. I dont quite know what it is. But everyone said it would taste awesome if i roasted it I even tried asking the guy in the shop at the pier. He wasnt all the friendly about it and he didnt know what it was called. But maybe one of you guys know. But overall fun experience. I think a lot of ppl were amazed at how i was a small grl fishing by myself

It's a type of puffer or blowfish. I wouldn't eat it.

BTW, it's supposed to be poisonous. I think you should throw it out.

Re: Dania Pier Fishing Reports 2008 "ONLY REPORTS"
It is neither a blowfish or a pufferfish. It is a cowfish aka trunkfish. In the Islands they roast them whole in their own shell and eat them. They are not poisionous but most anglers over here release them as there is not a lot of meat in them. Neat little fish to look at.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Yep it is a trunkfish. However, they are not the same as a cowfish. Cowfish are actually a different genus and have two little "horns" above their eyes.fishnfool73 wrote: It is a cowfish aka trunkfish.
However, this may be splitting hairs in this context.

Re: Dania Pier Fishing Reports 2008 "ONLY REPORTS"
I think we'll be looking at 2 to 3 weeks for the pomps to make any real showing. They just haven't really had enough southerly current to get them down here yet.

There has been a pretty steady Southerly flow at least in Deerfield. Ask anyone battlingthe Bru Wunna crew who never use enough weight out on the T.James@joshuasjigs wrote:I think we'll be looking at 2 to 3 weeks for the pomps to make any real showing. Most likely some are going by the pier like the last 2 years. Get wind,.. get fish. 2 to 3 weeks a wait,.. doubtful.

Re: Dania Pier Fishing Reports 2008 "ONLY REPORTS"
Joshua, and I spent the day with Marc and his son Dom today. After soaking fleas all day we counted a total of 4 Pomps (from early morning) 2 Macks (largest by Ross) and 2 short Muttons (sorry Craig, maybe next week). Not a very productive day at Dania.

Got out on Tues morning, bait was zero except for some ballyhoo if you had the patience. It was very slow in general but I lucked out with a nice keeper mutton, 18".

Re: Dania Pier Fishing Reports 2008 "ONLY REPORTS"
Hi everybody. I'm new to this post but love fishing at Dania Pier. I was out last saturday morning and had a good size snook on before he broke my line. I have that problem fixed and heading back over there this weekend. Question: What bait and rig do you catch the most spanish mackerel on? Seems like there is a lot around. I caught one there a year or two ago but don't remeber what I used.... Hope to see you all out there.
