no, it empties out around 10, at 12 last night i was the last person there (cept the asain guy with the long ass sabiki and blue cooler slaying herring left and right lol) i find the best time to go around 8 and kinda work your "spot" and enjoy the night time air instead of fight the crowd and bake in the sun.

around 1am it was me and my buddy getting mad because we couldnt catch bait like the master in the north corner. you had that camo jacket on right.

yah i was tossing the lure from what i read the blue fish bit died off well before i got there

i would say the optimum bluefish time was about 10pm, cause everyone on the pier seems to get a bluefish on within 5 minutes of eachother around 10 then it stayed strong till about 11:30-12:00 so it was nice, i walked out with several so i was happy. im more into it for the sport though, i give my fish to my buddy.

Water clear past the first sandbar.
Mild NE winds 1 ft surf outgoing tide.

Since I havn't been to the pier recently I wasn't sure
about the bait situation, so I bought some live shrimp.
After arriving I felt like a fool as I watched folks
pulling ballyhoo on their sabikis... anyway...

Not so many ballyhoo as you may wonder, only a few at a time
were hanging out by the chum bags by those that made the
purchase. The majority of pods were swimming for their lives
from Bonita and Cero attacks.

I didn't stay long... since I didn't catch a single fish
in the 3-1/2 hours I was there (nor did the people next to me
so don't feel so bad). But while I was waiting (in between
the kept 6" Cowfish) I did run into several familiar faces
and met some new ones.

It seems Tex is back in town. And when Venezuela shows up
it's usually a one man game at that Tee, It's always cool
so see him bring in the big ones and show the squiders
how it's done.

Oh, and would someone help me do something about the yo-yos.
They have got to go! Why is it a natural instinct to laugh
like Santa when someone gets hit in the head with a lead and hook.

Sat 01-18-08 9:30am

So, tired of yo-yos and selling my last arm to fish the pier,
I decided to fish my little hidey-hole. As soon as I arrived
I was immediately upset; to think I had to fish next to ONE guy.
(Doesn't this guy know who's hole this is anyway)!?
Next time you decide to surfcast my hidey-hole don't forget to
bring your sandspikes! I'm not holding your rod, just lay it
on the sand like everyone else.

Clear water 1 ft surf light SE winds incoming tide.

With the leftover ballyhoo and another small purchase of skrimps
I cast past the seaweed using a double dropper rig for the livies
on one rod. Then use cut bait on the sink-slider rig on the other.

I didn't favor the sink-slider rig due to the grass beds growing taller
and hiding my bait when it got tangled with weeds. The double dropper
was more favorable since the bait was more visible suspended above
the weight with a tight line to the rod.

I had me-self some fun catching JackCrev one after another.
Plenty of game but no table-fare. Then the bite slowed down.
A few minutes later a pod of ballyhoo hits the surface and out jumps
a rabbit from the hat. I swear, it could have been anything,
okay, it might have been a Mackerel, Cero or Cuda.
What I really hate to mention is 30 seconds after the attack
my line goes slack from the double drop. Instantly I knew what had
happened. I reel in my slack line to re-rig when I couldn't help
but notice another pod attack. I figured I only had a few minutes to rig up,
so I opted to tie on a 1oz Krok spoon to the end of the line.

I ran into the water at waist deep and cast as far as I could with my yo-yo.
No, wait, that's wrong. I ran back for my rod that was posted
in the sandspike. Now I'm in waist high water casting my spoon towards
the water, not at someones face....

I get the hit after my 8th cast. And fight this fish for a few good
seconds before I begin walking backwards towards the dry sand.
After another minute of tug-o-war I get her close enough to identify what
seemed to be a Cero or Spanish.
I'm thinking this fish has nowhere to go in 12" of water.
No down, out, left or right; nope, she jumped 2ft in the air and cut
herself free and took my Krok spoon. It happened so quick I almost felt used
and cheated on. I'm gonna miss that spoon. If you see her, tell her
I want my spoon back, she's about 20" and growing fast.

Here's a pic of the average sized JackCs that gave me some game.

They will come and go. All they are doing is running up and down the beach. Will be that way for a few months before they start to head north. Went and scooped fleas, solid they are.
I will be hunting in a few hours.

Went from about 11-3, didn't catch a thing. I saw a few macks come up and there were plenty of runners around. Then went to go fish the inlet out front for a while. Had something hit hard, but my rod started acting up and I lost it.

went by the pier today to see what was going on. there were a few people at the T and some pompano fisherman towards the middle...I stayed on the beach catching sand fleas to use hopefully tomorrow...I managed to get about 3 dozen large sized fleas... as I was leaving I saw what I think was a pompano being flipped up...the winds were about 23mph with 3 to 4 foot waves the beach was closed to swimmers.....

I just talked to someone out there. A few Pomps and Bluefish
are the menu today. Not much of anything. Saturday night was
Pomp night.

Gofish that was me (James) soaking wet under the pier getting fleas. It was a nice short how do you do. and there was a few pomps today. but to much wind from the east.

nice meeting you....i stayed a little while longer getting fleas after i spoke to you and then i left...i had my rods in the car but decided to leave the fleas for another day...i just wanted to be ready the next time i head out unlike saturday where there were pomps but i had no fleas and wasn't gonna buy them for 5 bucks from the pier...see u next time

i think im gonna head out today and see if i can get skunked (last time i actually walked out with multiple fish so i shouldnt expect anything else for the remaining year) i gotta find some good cheap bait, any suggestions? i used up all my ballyhoo finally. if anyone wants to meet up, send me a PM or just look for the guy wearing a long dress shirt, jeans, and converse, with the lucky black hat. good luck all, see ya out there.

hahaha so many people keep telling me that, but i refuse to give up THE hat. ive had it forever, its my oniel black hat, i think instead i should learn to fish. anyways, im out the door, see yas out there folks, beautiful day out

It is just timing. I can read where someone says there is nothing,
and I can go there and catch fish. Check winds, tides, and plan
according to things. For instance,... tonight, late,.. is going north 15 to 20.
Water is clear now. High tide is around 10:00 am. It should be
going northeast by then as the tide starts going out. The wind
will cause the water to dirty up close to the beach, and the outgoing tide
will make it dirty as it creeps offshore with the tide. So I will be heading there,
but not until hightide. There could be nothing in the morning, and
by noon,.. plenty. One thing I never do is pay lots of attention to what
others say. Most of the time they are full of crap.
If I did, I would catch squat. Learn the patterns and you will
catch fish.
