Dania Pier Fishing Reports 2011 "ONLY REPORTS"

Well just got back from Dania, not a bad day. No "good" fish biting, but I hooked up with about 10 or so Jack, and a few reef fish I couldn't identify. Lot's of bait in the water but nothing was really biting my shrimp sabiki. A big snook was looming around getting everyone excited.

One of the reef fish was blue/greyish brown and roundish in shape. Forgot to take a picture.
Here is the other one


and another little fish I couldn't identify, thought it was a grunt, but I've never seen a grunt with green eyes,



No keepers, but hey fish were biting all day and it's nice to just look at this.

i just got back from dania also. the first picture is a moon fish the second picture is a sand perch.

i also caught a moon fish on a sabiki rig, and i caught that same brown reef fish i think you are talking about.

What part of the pier were you fishing at?

the brown reef fish i dont know. the one i brung up had a very small mouth,

i fished all the way in the back rite over the sign that has all the pier rules.rite in the center of T.the pier was not packed yesterday.

i did manage to hook up to a bluefish,but that mofo ran like a bat out of hell and wrapped me around the structure of the pier and the guy next to me was looking at me like how the hell did he catch that and didnt want to move so i can bring up my fish. so when i pulled from where i was at the fish broke off and i got pist!!!! it was like 3 feet out of the water already.

The little brown fish is a Wrasse of some sort, a Banded Wrasse I belive...see them diving all the time, quite common.

the visibility in the water sucks, i have been snorkling twice a week for the past 2 weeks and cant even see my buddy thats not even 10 ft next to me.

Well the countdown until I have a good catch at dania is still on... I'm on my way back now all I was catching was grunt. No baitfish on the sabiki, got one pilchard and other than that just grunt and a moonfish.

Why no clear water? ive been dieing for the water to clear up so that i can actually see the fish's in the water.

btw tommy, are there actually those euro jacks at dania?

Around sunset both of my reels went off within a minute of each other, and unfortunately I wasn't able to hook up on either. How do you guys respond when your reel goes off? I just tighten the drag and pull up and try to set the hook, both times thats when I lost the fish.

Sounds like you have a good system, time is a killer when you are trying to get them hooked. That is one of the benefits of the baitrunner series.All you have to do is flip a switch and you are in gear. Same thing for a conventional.
To make a quicker response, I engage the reel while it is still leaning on the rail, that way the spool stops and picking up and pulling back is all one motion.
Once the hook is set I try to disengage the clicker asap.

It was actually both my conventionals that went off. I don't have to tighten the drag on the conventionals before reeling? I have them pretty loose when they are just sitting there.

Was out there last night from 11pm-4:30am, didn't catch anything. Only grunt on the sabiki... However a guy showed up about a half an hour before we left and pulled up pilchards on the sabiki, and caught a big blue fish. Guess I just suck.

it aint that you suck, its just that last night wasn't to productive. man it happens to me as well as everybody. sometimes im catchin while others are skunkin and then there are days that im doin horrible while the rest around me are slayin. just keep going and you will bring them it.

Was out on the pier with a friend of mine from about 10:30p until 3am. Nothing was biting for anyone. The two of use grabbed a mangrove snapper each. I saw a few more mangroves come up over the rail, but nothing really consistent. Other than that, there was a baby shark and plenty of sea weed. i think my biggest accomplishment was losing so much lead on the rocks. I'll probably be back sunday or monday, but until then, tight lines!
