I have to disagree with your comment on spearfishing,it takes more talent to catch a grouper 50 feet down on a single breath of air than catch them on a boat where your safe from the sharks.Trust me GruntKing, most people are not hardcore enough to spearfish and be successful at it.As a spearfishermen your in the fishes territory( a big disadvantage) and you have to be well conditioned in order to not get hurt.If your ever up for a little divetrip let me know and I will take you off the beach 800 yards off the beach for a couple hours(maybe 8).Let me know!Regardless of your opinion of spearfishing you are doing great as a fisherman!
Miguel I'm an avid spearfisherman, but I can't always find anyone to go out with. I have no idea where Gruntking caught all those groupers, they're tough to catch in Ft Lauderdale (not sure if it's me or the party boat scene or what)...I've had better luck further north or in the keys off bridges when it comes to grouper...but anytime you want to go out off the beach and need a certified FII level one freediver (safety first eh!) for company, let me know, I'm IN! Gurntking, nice catch man! You did all that in Ft Lauderdale, or further south or north?

Hehe GK is a good fisherman, those are not easy to come by, and from my experience he follows the rules as do most of the regulars that I know here at least. Choice fish, I would love to tangle with one of these puppies on locked drag!

Migue, here is a 62 year old who whoops at spear fishing... Biggest mutton I have seen him take was 112 feet deep and weighed in at 23 lbs! He still does not believe me how deep he was, but I saw it on the fish finder, it was in a hole in the Marquesas Islands that drops from 42 feet to 115 with rock caves all around!

It is as simple as that Rare, and not to be a hippie (although I like hippies lol) but meditation and zen help out a lot, the calmer you are, regardless of how you get there, the longer you can last. Next is technique, you must conserve as MUCH energy as possible, which means having a good weight belt, and finally you MUST saturate your lungs before you immerse! I miss it to be honest with you, my uncle handed me 3 gag groupers, we were 200 yards from the boat and he told me that if I lost one I would not get paid for the whole trip lol. This was my introduction to sharks with spear fishing...

I made it unscathed and did not lose any fish, however that was the most intense moments of my life thus far... I was surrounded by 3-4 blacktips who MEANT business, and of course, I could hear him laughing thru the snorkel... He is definitely a character...

You are still good. I have a few friends that smoke and can still out due some that don't smoke. Adam quit last year sometime since he started spearfishing & was a chain smoker. This past Sat/Sun when we were out & had no problem going down for lobster. Just got to trained for it
I quit in smoking in Feb took my time training myself but now I can happily freedive 30 - 40ft with bottom time. I'm going to do the Freedive cert in Feb. Plus once you pickup a speargun and get good with it Rod and Reel just don't feel the same.

miguel456 wrote:Bear Cut and behind Miami Aquarium are definitely good spots from what my friends tell me.Plenty of grouper and snapper what I hear.If you see many boats there its for a reason, they probably catch fish there often.Personally I rather go on my friends boat offshore since we tend to better than the bay in the boat.Whenever I go Boatless, the Keys and Dania Pier are very productive.
well yeah but beleve it or not i catch alot more in the bay then offshore

from my experience if you usualy see alot of people always anchored in the same area dosent mean there is alot of fish just means its where they all hear the fish are

i have a friend that swears he saw bigfoot once

LOL. Being confined to fishing on foot, I can tell you with certainty that there is fish all around that area you mentioned, however, it is mostly bonefish, permit and tarpon. My biggest permit on artificials came from there, white bucktail jig at 1am on a VERY cold night!

LOL You are in serious need of punctuation! I'm not sure if I've ever seen you post a comma or period. One line posts are ok, but this is just out of hand...
