just wanted to appologize about something

forever i said gruntshave no use....

my buddy caught about 30 the other day, smoked em, made OUTSTANDING fish dip. and i have about 1/2 a gallon of it lol, anyways, just wanted to make an apology, the pic reminded me of the situation.

Early Wednesday am = 1 Pompano 1 Flounder
Late Wednesday right after the lunar eclipse = 6 Pompanos caught w/in 40 mins and then no other bites until we left at 4 am.

I use the Hollywood beach report line 954 921 3334 for tide and wind info. Says high today is 9ish and low around 4pm. about the same as your data for Whiskey creek. I'd say the pier is about an hour earlier.

Winds were E, water was rough but clear and we saw what we thought was bait but the sabiki stayed quiet most of the night 'cept for the occasional look down. Fished frozen fleas on chicken rigs and our nice hand picked shrimp didn't entice anything. We had one soaking for 3 hours and it was still alive when we packed up

Saw some anglers flipping blues but other than that short spurt of pomps it was a slow night.

ps. Parking issues: someone came out to warn us that the tow truck was there to enforce (insert the name he said here)'s order to do a drive by during the night. It was about 3:30 am and he was still cruising the parking lot at 4. JMO but WTF does it matter who's parked where at 4 am at Dania beach? Parking ticket? sure, I guess so but a tow truck? seems awfully harsh.

Sally, what time did you get down there? I left at 7:00. Again we just missed each other. I`m wondering how many times that happened over the last 20 years?

BTW, I got there around 3:30, started in the hole for 2 hrs, moved to just after the sand bar, and finally in the trough before I left. Not one bite.

fished today from 4pm to 8pm water was pretty flat and clear
scattered ballyhoo were finicky and hard to catch
saw some mackerel around not many though only 1 or 2 were caught all day
around 7pm huge school of herring came to the tee
had a rod casted out with a live herring on every side of the tea until 8 when i had to leave, not a single hit on any of them

overall crappy day of fishing
but still a pretty good day out on the pier

Where was the pic taken? Definately NOT a croaker. Looks like an Australian blue salmon (and the fish in the sink look like king george whiting).

3/1 report

SLOW.i stayed all day and managed only 1 mack on a freelined pilchard and 1 blue. saw a 4lb mack brought up, 2 jacks, a short mutton, and some other junk fish. Heard of a big tarpon hookup by the shore on a big greenie. the ballyhoo were thick right under the pier the whole time i was there and easily caught with a sabiki. there was about 5 trollies with live ballyhoo out all day and they didn't get touched.

2/29 & 3/2

Leap day I headed out about 4:00pm looking for the late afternoon bite w/pomps. Sat there soaking frozen fleas all afternoon to no avail. Last guys to leave were comm Mike and Carl. Well, just before dark, Carl gets a fish as do I. Then dead again. Still some light left. Sure enough, right after those guys leave, the bite got hot. First a single and then 2 doubles. I have my limit in less than 25 minutes.

Don`t fish saturday as I have some work to do, but I went in the afternoon to my northern spot to dig fleas.

Sunday, I arrive again about 4:00pm. Nothing until about 5:00, 2 fish were caught in the trough. I stuck it out where I was, just east of the sandbar. Around 6:45 the waves start breaking on the bar so I move my rod that was on top of the bar, to just outside my other two. No sooner had I set it down, and a fish was on. Three fish in 10 minutes, with a couple others around me, and it shuts off.

Moral of the story, stick to your guns, which mine was the plan of catching fish at low light. Other than that of dirty water and a falling tide.

At least I have enough to break out the smoker...mmmmmmm, smoked pompano dip.

yea, they were scattered through the day but the ones that i did get had some nice size to them with a monster or two.(5"-8") . the mack in the pic ate a 6 incher.

Pilchards were thick at DFP last few nights as well, big boys thyere too....but did not see any during the day.

Gotants, not sure what I like more the smoker of what's in it ! Nice work.

Got to the peir at about 6am. I had planned to fish the sandbar since I didn`t have many rigs made and I know my line needs changing real bad. Well I set up and get some rods out but man o man, there`s like 30 koreans packed in that area and they are casting every which way and just plopping their rod down from where they cast, not bothering to see who`s line they crossed and place their rod in the appropriate spot.

I then move out by the comm guys but that spot is deadly. I must`ve lost $30 worth of tackle in there today.

Around 7-8, the rains came in. Not just a quick shower, but a gail for an hour and a half. I had foul weather gear, but left my boots in the work truck so my sneakers got soaked. Even an hour later, I took them off and wrung out about 4oz of water off of each sock.

When it finally cleared, the sun broke thru and it got smoking hot. I left around 1:00pm and came back around 4:00 with again, those guys crowding the sandbar.

Now don`t get me wrong, everyone has the same rights to fish there as anyone else, but man, that was a population explosion from last year of 300%. Must`ve seen 25 new ugly stiks out there.

Anyhoos, I left at dark with just one pomp in the morning and another in the afternoon.

just for everyone's info: those guys are vietnamese, not chinese or korean - and please don't say "they're all the same" - you don't wanna mess with those guys, trust me, they are tough even though they're small

but you're right GotAnts, if you're going to fish at Dania - be there early or you will have to fish amidst a jungle of rods

Can you please explain this in more detail? Just wondering why you would make a comment like this if Gotants never express any phsycial act towards them. I understand his frustration very well.
