no t-top were going to put a fold down top on there . so everything will be mounted in a way it can come off at the house , dont trust a few of the people in the neighbor hood anyways so we want all the expensive stuff to come off and in the house , we have already put a 5 gal bucket full of concrete about 5 foot down in a hole so the trailer can be locked down so they can pull on that all they want they will rip the axle off before they will get the boat , it will still be a while before its all back together ....

well a little update

we are fiber-glassing all the boards top, bottom, and sides before we put them in the floor for the last time , it takes a while to do it that's why i haven't updated in a while , lots of boards to do and wait while the resin drys ..

we did start doing some work on putting the C/C back together here is what it looks like ATM !
Image

then we found a 1986 Yamaha 50 hp on craigs list and went and got it out of Florida ,
they guy tried to change the water pump and broke a bolt off in the upper casing and then took a drill to it so that has to be fixed , we did check the compression on it all 3 cylinders were @ 130 psi and the motor fired up and ran strong not bad for what we paid for it with a bit of work ! plus it came with the side controls

Image
Image

after we got home just for poops and giggles we were looking for yammie parts on craigs list and found the in console binacale controls so we drove back down to Jacksonville to get them 50 bucks for a bibacale is cheap there like 300.00 with the cables so it was a steal we couldnt pass on !

Image

we are getting closer and closer every day to putting it back in the water !

One of the great things about this boat is the size, and the fact that you will know it inside and out. If there is an issue you will be able to diagonose it almost immediately. Have you replaced the bilge pump and float? If not I would. If it does not have one you will deffinately want to install one.

thats very true , the bilge and livewell pumps are being replaced with new ones , the old one will be kept as a back up as they still work.

well this is a bummer post ! the lower unit that came with the motor is crap , after cleaning it up we found a big ass crack in the lower unit and its corroded to hell so more than likely going to find a used one is good shape or just find the casing and use the guts from this one , thats if we can get it a part , so far we have taken the shift rod out , got the water pump out , and got the thrust ring out from the in side of the foot and when it came out it fell apart , so getting the bearing housing out looks like its going to be a chore in its self ... ill take a few pic later for yall to see ...

frist is my home made housing puller that didnt work ! we bent the shackles at the base of it
Image

next is the crack and the piece that fell out while we used an oring pick to pick at some of the corrosion

Image

and just some random pic to show how bad this is

Image
Image
Image

and we redid the puller and put a load on it and soaked the area with pb blater and let it sit over night and hopefully it will pop its self free at some point !
Image

so if we cant get it apart more than likely we will find another one if we can !

its a small set back if you look at the bigger picture of this project , it will all get back together at some point in this , like i told some one its better to take it slow than to rush threw it and screw something up and have to go back and redo it , do it slow do it right and have a better product in the end ...

Was thinking bout budget because I believe this one is gonna be one of those well done but cheap since you mentioned cost at some points. I love projects you do for your self out of your pocket to achieve something much more in value than you have invested at least $$ wise. That ethic translates directly what you do for others. You will give 100% all day everey day.

Kinda stands out.

As they say down here

Bueno Bonito Barato to the tune of powered by home made :toast:

yep edited twice WTF LOL
yea cost is a big factor is some of it , but if we have to we will buy some at a time and when we get all of it , then well work some more , the deck and the motor is something we wont be stingy on may take a while to get all the parts but we will get them even if its one part at a time , im going to start being like the cows on the chick fi a commercials

Buy More sinkers lol j/k

i wouldn't do that to y'all , but in all honesty the boat will eventually get completed !!

yea were leaning more towards doing that than trying to find one that just the avg joe is selling and we dont know if theres any thing wrong or not .. atleast that way if we have any problems we can call them and say looky here ...

but we are doing what we can between the rain here , so we brought the console up on the back porch and put the controls and the start/kill switch in there , and got some of the cross supports fiberglassed in the boat few more things to do in there and it will be ready for the foam to go back in ...

THE BEAST IS FREE LOL

after re-configuring the puller we were able to get the hosing out of the foot ,
the gear casing is now at the shop being welded so that should be good to go here
shortly .. the bad part is we have to break down and buy a special tool that we are unable to make what it does is cleans and repairs the treads in the foot for the retainer nut to hold the part we just spent days getting out! go figure

heres the tool on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/THREAD-CHASER-T ... _930wt_825

heres some pics for yall

strizile wrote:The weld will hold?
it will hold , this isnt a high stress area the reason for the crack was poor maintenance from the P/O not doing the wash down like your supposed to do after you bring the motor out of salt water , the crack was formed when the corrosion from the salt built up under the retaining ring and pushed it out . plus its at the shop now being welded so i haven't seen the work hes doing to it , ill post pics of it when we get it back . but normal maintenance on the motor should prevent this in the future, a lot of times people take care of the top part of the motor and neglect the rest for some reason , we called the guy we got it from and asked if the motor had sat on a boat in the water and he told us yes the boat was at a private dock and never came out the water until Jan of this year when they noticed the crack and they tried to fix it and gave up when they were snapping the bolts off ...
