New York Driftboat

Post by snakehead terror »

I was up in NY for a vacation the last few days, and my dad decided that we would go on a driftboat. There was a moratorium on fluke (similar to our snook season), so the driftboat went for porgie and seabass.
We got to the boat a little after 6. The first thing I noticed was diffrent from our driftboats was that in NY you pay after you get on the boat. Anyway, we get to our first stop and drop down the chicken rigs with clams that we were given, and instantly start to get hit. On the first stop some nice sea bass were pulled up (nice for a seabass is only a few pounds). I got a little porgie. We get back on the spot and my dad and I get a few keeper seabass.

We bottom fished the clams the whole trip. The next fish I caught was a keeper ling.

My dad also got a silver eel. No pics.
Anyway, we ended up keeping about 10 fish, no big ones, but fun. Here is most of the haul (missing a few seabass)

We kept the fish on ice and had a great dinner. We had 3 of these plates without even using up all the fish

I freshwater fished throuout the trip and got some bass. I also got a pictureworthy bullfrog that ate my mini spoon

It was a fun trip and I got to fish every day :toast:

Great report. :thumright: It is pretty neat to see other species from a different states.
The Judge asked the prostitute, "At what point did you realize you were raped?"
The prostitute replied (wiping away tears), "When the check bounced."

yeah, those boats do a much different style of fishing than the ones in florida. some of the fish
caught up there are very strange lookin. not talkin about seabass or fluke.
