Rickenbacker 2011 Fishing Reports Only

Post by cantseeme47 »

well was bored as hell so decided to hit up rickenbacker this morning and fish. at day break threw a xrap around and caught a small blue runner. then switched over to a trollrite with a live shrimp and caught the smallest snapper u ever did see and that was all the amazing action this morning

Believe it or not, I saw one of the biggest bluefish ever, caught off rickenbacker at night. This was 5 years ago. I remember it well cause I hooked a huge tarpon on 8 pound test and when I pulled he jumped. Needless to say the hook was gone. Happy lines..

not much going on down here went out yesterday and all i saw was lots of mullets,i took a ride down to black point, man was it hot! the only ones catching anything were the mullet fisherwomen on the south side of mnt. trashmore, the east/west canal,i managed to beat the storm and got home just befor it hit.Ill keep updating as the rains should make it better once they start opening the dams. :happyfisherman: TIGHT LINES

as far as no reports for piers in dade,we have no piers you can fish off of,newport -CLOSED, HALLOVER-GONE,OLD CONCRETE PIER ON S.BCH-TORN DOWN(where niki bch was at)the NEW PIER ON GOV. CUT-closed down (kids jumping off into the cut from the pier)there was great fishing off that pier,i fished it every night when i lived on s.bch befor the art deco madness, there really arnt alot of other places you can fish off of legaly and catch any decent fish,in order to do so you have to be willing to risk getting thrown out,or worst P.D citations,if you are willing to try, check VIRGINIA BCH on the north side, its across from the seaquarium and you have to pay to get in,go as far back as you can,try any spot that looks fishy maybe there you can find something to write about.TIGHT LINES :happyfisherman:

Hey lightline 69 I'm curious about what you have catched off guvernment cut pier( where the kids used to jump) ... that spot looks like it holds fish, it's deep, there's current and bait and people don't fish there anymore, is it legal to fish the jetty?

I've been wanting to hear a report from there, if is legal to fish there I will try my luck, I've watched people fishing there and not catch anything remarkable, however their baits, and gear were very light.

Is the Rickenbacker 'Bear Cut" catwalk still there or was it demolished? When I was a teen/20 something my friends and I fished/shrimped there all the time.

cool little hogfish

as for the catwalk at bearcut, its still there. saw some guys fishing it last weekend while stuck in traffic trying to get to the beach. im not too sure about the lower part that goes under the bridge, but im sure its still there. not sure if its worth the fine you will get if caught there though.

sorry for the delay,on gov.cut the current is strong and yes there are some good fish to be caught the only problem is that i found from diving there many years ago it is made up of ledges, stairs if you will,if you cast from shore or the jetty its a losing battel trying to get any fish with size over all of them, dont get me wrong it can be done-sometimes we would have trouble even with the height on the new pier when we could fish their, guess you can still fish off the rocks if you dare,a fall could be bad news!If that isnt bad enough there the parking, closest ones are for the restaurant, anywhere there you have to pay. they still go out there to fish, ive seen them.(we caught big grovers, muttons, groupers, snook, tarpon, all kinds of bottom fish and on the beach side you name it we caught it ,during the season) As far as baercut the cat walk is still there but i wouldnt go down, the concrete was falling off in chunks all over the place years ago when i snuck over during a hot mac bite, which cost me a days pay going to court, today it must really be bad(dont do it)both sides of the beach are closed hense the fence ,a citation may end up being the least of your worries!!!!!!FISH IF YOU DARE :scold:DONT IF YOUR SMART!!! :thumright: TIGHT LINES
