There isn't one . The last 2 times I was down there I saw no one working on it either passing it down or on the way home. I saw little change in a months time.

Yep, they started off strong, I even saw people working on it on a Sunday, but since April or May, haven't noticed much change.

Re: long key completion?
I came across your group after an article about trash and dead fish prompted some of your members to adopt one of the historic Flagler bridges along our trail. That was very much appreciated! There are more bridges to adopt but first I want to answer this question. The reason some of you drive by Long Key bridge and don't see work going on is because the contractor finished the concrete work as well as the resurfacing and striping. The rails are being done by a sub contractor locally. They go out there and install the railings one at a time as they finish them. The project was given until the end of December to get finished. We think they are ahead of schedule (fingers crossed) but please be patient and wait for the final inspection once everything is completed. And don't hesitate to let me know if I can answer any more questions - or sign up any more volunteers! We want to take care of these historic treasures and the special marine resources that live here with us so we can fish, walk, bike and enjoy nature for years to come, Right?! Thanks!

Re: long key completion?
I was told that there is a sign posted at the entrance of the long key bridge stating that the construction will be completed by sept. 15. can anyone confirm this?

Re: long key completion?
MONICA who posted above is in charge of it and said Dec is the latest per contract so sounds like Sept is a stretch. I was just down there 2 weeks ago and it had a long way to go.

Is there any purpose to the widening of the bridge at some spots?

The platforms were made so fishermen /fisherwomen could move their stuff out of the main route of travel for joggers and cyclist would be my guess.

Re: long key completion?
I wouldn't worry about it, I've fished at Tom's Harbor since they installed the platforms and have set up in between them, no one has said anything, just keep a lane down the middle of the bridge clear for pedestrians and bikers.Rijkaard wrote:right, but for what I've seen there's more than 100 yds of distance between them, I've counted 20-25 platforms in total, hopefully they won't force anglers to fish only from platforms otherwise there'll be room enough for no more than 50 people on the whole bridgefishnfool73 wrote:The platforms were made so fishermen /fisherwomen could move their stuff out of the main route of travel for joggers and cyclist would be my guess.

When is Long Key going to open?! Was looking through some old pics and found this one, about 6 years old from the north end of Long Key looking west at sunset...

Re: long key completion?
On the way down to Tom's Harbor two weeks ago, I saw that almost all of the platforms are complete. however, there is a large section in the middle of the bridge that doesn't have the platforms built. My guess is that would be ready in a couple months. the hurricanes probably delayed the construction. Maybe it will be finished before Christmas???
Whatever the case, once that bridge opens the fishing will be absolutely nuts!

Re: long key completion?
IT is almost there. All the platforms are in. They repaved the whole bridge. The only thing left is there is a gap between the railing on the platform and the concrete rail on the bridge. But if you look at the south end they have already started filling in the gaps with another piece of the metal railing from the platform. The bridge looks great but with that new blacktop on there it is going to get real hot.

Re: long key completion?
hello again I was wondering if there were any updates on the completion of long key bridge. I hope i'm not being a pain in the rear end, but i'm really anxious to start fishing there again. I know they have until the end of the year, i was hoping by some stroke of luck they would finish early.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, Bigtrini97.
hi!
As some of you have already observed, the only part left to finish are the gaps between the railings and the bridge. The sub-contractor is hurting and can only afford to buy so much material at a time. I didn't know the banner said September until just yesterday - sorry! Now I see why everyone is so confused...
Another concern I have read in alot of posts is about whether the platforms will be the only place anglers will be allowed. No, not at all! But everyone needs to share - no blockades, please! When bikes come by they shouldn't have to wait for people to move their stuff, they should be able to bike, jog, skate on thru!
Thanks for your patience and understanding!!

Re: long key completion?
Thanks for the update Monica. I know you don't have an exact answer, but can you give us an educated guess as to a timeframe when it might be reopening? Or are we solely at the mercy of the subcontractors?
