I don't see why it would be illegal?Colin36 wrote:I dont have a castnet and with the mullet run comming up I thinking of using some snatch hooks I have to snag them, but am wondering if it is legal.

Re: Is it legal to snag mullet
Anyone have any advice on a snatch rig? Size hook? Weighted?
Is there a way to rig it up so you can have a snatch and a circle on at the same time? Would make walking the beach way easier if I only had to carry one rod. Snag a mullet, take the treble off, bait up, and go.
Thinking about tying a big circle on, then either running a big treble through the circle, or setting up a snap swivel somehow.

You can not legaly fish for snook with natural bait with a treble so no legal way to fish with the treble and a circle if the FWC officer may even think you were targeting snook. Lets face it if your are fishing live mullet snook are on your list of hopeful catches. Bring a bucket with a lid and snag a few mullet remove the treble and replace with a circle and fish til you run out of mullet and repeat.
The best snatch rig I have seen is rigged similar to a guppy or chicken rig but with one treble hook rig on a drooper rig with a weight on the bottom on the rig. Cast towards the school and sweep the rig back with violent snatches. You can also buy a weighed treble hook but they run a few bucks each.

Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

I wasn't planning on fishign with the treble. Thinking of having the treble and circle on there at the same time, then once I snag a mullet taking the treble off. This way I don't have to worry about re-rigging and stuff.
I have a net for if I'm staying in one place. This would be if I decide to go chasing a school. I don't really want to lug a net, bucket, and if the school goes out of cast net range a bucket with water and fish along the beach for a mile.
But I've never fished the mullet run, so I dunno. Part of the fun in fishing for me is coming up with contraptions.
