Avet.

I have narrowed down my search to 2 avets.

Avet SX 5.3:1 single drag, camo blue/black. Holds 220/20 and 375/16. For 219.99
or
Avet MXL 5.8 single drag, Green. Holds 360/20. For 219.99

I cannot figure out witch one to get. The reel is for trolly, free line, and bottom fishing. Let me know any opinions, C-Money.

Use a heavier rod then you think. The crowder 20-50lb I have seems light on my mxl.
For line I either fish 25-30lb mono strait. Or I will load with 50lb power pro backing and 40lb top shot.

i have 300 yards of 50 pound diamond braid and the rest is filled up with 50 pound ande right now its off and on the rod i fish my 4/0 on the rods a penn jigmaster not the best but it works the line rating on the rod is 20-50 but when i get some money im gonna buy if i can find a chaos pier rod and if not im gonna buy a 8 foot 40-50 star and extend the butt to make it 9 foot but i have friends that fish theirs on lighter 20-30 rods but i like the stiffer 9 foot one

If I get the MXL I was gonna get a 40-60 lb 9ft custom rod and put 20lb on it.

Truthfully you don't need 360yards of line. On mine Ive caught up to a 44lb jack and larger blacktip. Those didn't even come close to spooling me.

Braid as backing gives you more capacity. The mono top shot gives you better abrasion as well as shock absorbsion.

So if anything ill put 40lb powerpro with 30lb mono. Does that make sense?

Fish trying to go under piers so you fish heavy top shot. But casting a mxl if you have it filled with 40lb or 50lb will leave you next to no line, just in case.

Yes , I normally use braid about double or so the breaking strength of my mon 30 lb braid and 15 lb mono and so forth. Heavier mono is fine as the knots will hold better just make sure the connecting knot will clear the reel and rod eyes without a problem.

If you dont have that many reels get the MXL it is way more versatile. The sx may be suited well for certain applications but the mxl can be used in so many more apllicatins.
If you still cant choose you should go with an MXJ it is a size in between those 2 reels

ryan, im thinking about getting the avet sx mc 5.3 think it would be fine for casting and freelining. any advice is appreciated

planning on putting 150 yards of 30 lb braid with 250 or more yards of 17 lb pink ande. A nice lightweight combo nothing like the size of a 4/0 i imagine

Sounds alright to me just match a good rod to it. My buddy has the same model SX on a g-loomis and its a nice combo.
I would go a little heavier on the top shot like 20 or 25,
If you want to fish 17lb youll have enough line not to need any braid backing.

The higher # line would help with abrasion and shock absorption right?

and to be honest I dont know many rods. I only fish ugly sticks cause they have been good for me. What kind is the g-loomis? height? what lb blank? all that stuff

question#1 yesyes
Question#2 Im not sure about the model on that loomis but the rating is like 15-30lb
a 20-40lb rod would also nicely fit a Sx
Good rods in that size aren't as common but keep ur eyes open Ill look a little on the web.

sounds good a deal on a used rod is always better.Just try and hve the rod and reel together to see if they seem
balanced to you.The Most important thing when it comes to tackle is that you yourself has confidence in it.
