Nice report fishaddict.
The Judge asked the prostitute, "At what point did you realize you were raped?"
The prostitute replied (wiping away tears), "When the check bounced."

Re: Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports"
I was down there today from about noon until 4pm. I caught 8 flounder on bucktails from the south jetty (pink & white/silver mylar). I made alot of people mad today.
I released them all except for a pair of 18-20". Most of the fish were 12-14". The bite didn't really start until about 1:30 or so. It was F'n COLD!! I figured I'd be safe from the wind huddled up on the rocks below the south jetty, but I got slammed by a random 6' swell about 20 minutes after I got there. By the time I left I think I was mildly hypothermic. Come to think of it, I'm still cold.

Re: Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports"
Fished a couple times last week and managed 4 flounder (14-22"), 2 pompano (14"), 2 snook (~32-34, ~35-37), and a bluefish or two.
Everything was caught on 10lb. test with no leader and 1/4 oz. to 3/8 oz. jigs (most fish caught on the 1/4 oz., even the larger snook).
Lost a ton of jigs and dead polers all over the place
I think only about 5% of the fishing population can cast straight out there. Even so, I am thankful to be close to the ocean for a change.

Re: Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports"
I was there Wednesday from noon to 6. I got a 25" flounder and my friend Billy got a 24", they were the only decent fish I saw landed. After about 2pm it was nothing but bluefish, bluefish, bluefish. They wore out every jig I had with me, then I felt really foolish when I found a white Capt mike's spoon in the bottom of my bag
. I literally caught 3-4lb blues til my arms hurt. Probably 50+ fish. The rain that was supposed to shut us down, never came. It was a really nice day. And we saw a f'n whale cruise by monster hole. No sht, a f'n whale?

Re: Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports"
well today is surely a different day. I was one of only few braving the cold wind at North Jetty in the morning. It was like nothing but blues even I did not target them at all. Only one pomp and couple of whitings but no drum were caught for 5 hrs I was there. Strong NW wind and current made fishing toward beach nearly impossible. I then tried south Jetty for flouder but got nothing, saw no flouder by others either. Only fishes caught there were blues again except one 37" snook. What a great scene seeing snook is still around after the last fish kill.

Re: Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports"
Decided to make the drive up to SI Sat morning. Arrived at 6:30am just as it started to get daylight. There was probably about 20 people fishing on the N Jetty when I got there and the blues were already starting to go crazy. Got 3 nice blues (2 to 3 lbs) on the first 5 casts. Landed a couple more before the bite tapered off. So I decided to put on a small jig and see if there was anything else out there and BAMM, sp mac nailed it! So played with the sp macs for an hour or so till they moved on somewhere else. Probably caught 7 or 8 of those, but some were too small for my liking so threw them back and only kept 3 that were a couple lbs each. After that, the bite was kind of hit an miss on the blues. The days total for me was 7 blues and 3 macs. However, for those that were fishing with clams and shirmp, they were catching some nice black drum, and then in the afternoon, I saw a lot of nice pompano come up. Also saw one nice snook come up. All in all, a fun day!!

Re: Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports"
some schools of blues came through yesterday around 7 & 8am until the outgoing switch. there were also plenty of ladyfish feeding amongst the blues to. however; pompano seems to be the most target species there now. saw at least 6 or 7 caught in about an hr so there were likely more flipped over when i left the north pier. oh yeah, there was a few small drum caught on the north side and one whiting on the south.
didn't see macks while i was out.

Re: Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports"
Were the pompano caught in the middle or end of the jetty? From the pictures it doesn't look like they were in the surf zone. I was on the beach north of there yesterday, mostly whiting (caught and saw) up to 100 yds out.

and live to tell about it ? I doubt it between the current , waves, and boat traffic , a yak at the mouth of the inlet is asking for death.firebeforice wrote:damn you guys seem be having a great time out there!

Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Re: Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports"
It holds a ton of fish but a dangerous inlet to do it. Unless conditions were perfect in the middle of the week I wouldn't try it.

the fish are being caught from the end of jetty and all the way to the rocks on the north side of pier.Bi0tic wrote:Were the pompano caught in the middle or end of the jetty? Re: Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports"
Was out there early this morning. Flat calm conditions, one could have yakked out to the monster hole today. If only I was prepared for offshore yakking, I could have been out there beyond the breakers.
The bite was ok this morning. I caught a couple pompano on the oceanside about 40 yds from the end. There were a decent amount of pompano caught from the rat's nest, plus the usual black drum.

That's awesome - I caught 2 juvenilles at the same time on a sabiki over summer, but they were nothing like that! Awesome catch

Re: Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports"
I fished the jetty tonight, very depressing. 20 knots in my face, throwing big flies into the outgoing current. I caught quite a few ladyfish, and a 5lb blue before taking a walk up to the catwalk to check out the shadows. I saw nothing, just happy bait hanging under the catwalk without a care in the world. No big black shadows beyond the fenders, no busts in the channel. By May 1st 2009 I had already landed 41 snook at SI on fly tackle. This year so far - 2 dinks.

Re: Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports"
nothin but pompano action during the whole time i was there from 5pm till 7pm. they were good size pompano too and all were caught at the end of the pier drifting clams out with the low tide. blues were so and so but a school of mullet cam thru and the sharks were tearin them up. i wished i had something to pitch at them to make it exiting for me this evening.

Re: Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports"
Went out to south jetty Thurs AM high /outgoing tide.
caught a few 14"-18" flounder lost a few more on rocks/flip kept 3 for dinner
Some other guys had the same luck with a lot of small flounder in the mix.
I was using mud minnows and shrimp flatties all on mm 1 10# ray on shrimp
A lot of flounder caught on pomp jigs w/clam strips saw a few nice pomps come over the rail with some blues jacks a couple of black drum and one huge blue I thought was a tarpon when it jumped 4' out of the water, the guy was using a light spin outfit but he landed it after a great battle
sunburn ,tide change, I went home a happy lad

Thanks for the report. I've been wondering what's going on up there. I havn't made the trip in a few months. Looking forward to making it back up that way soon.
