Wow, that is some serious work. Its almost time for the camarones to start running there, these cold fronts should start to get them going.

Dude, you are lucky to have made it out of there alive after releasing those grouper. You are right, the Rick is a strange place, you always have to keep an eye out. Once when I was shrimping, I went under the bridge to take a leak, and there was a hooker servicing a guy under there...then they both started threatening me for interrupting them

Now thats some urban fishing. I've been working in Miami now for a year and have never tried to fish down there. Is the Rickenbacker the one that goes to key biscayne right off the dolphin express in downtown miami? Nice grouper. :toast:

rare; it looks like they are going to demolish the west fishing pier and use the remains to make an artificial reef.

http://www.miamidade.gov/PubWorks/relea ... elease.asp
Rickenbacker Causeway West Fishing Pier Demolition
Public Works Project No. 20100402: Work under this project consists of the complete demolition of the existing Rickenbaker Causeway West Fishing Pier. This demolition includes all of the bridge elements and attached appurtenances such as utilities, luminaries, the necessary preparation, transportation and placement of the demolition material in the Artificial Reef. The project will also provide a new electrical connection from the William Powell Bridge to the fender system located underneath the bridge. No mainline road closing are foreseen, therefore no alternate route is necessary. Construction is anticipated to be completed by April 30, 2011.

Nice report Nelson, but remind everyone that there are no fish in the Rickenbacker, it is over fished. There is only shrimp and only when it's cold and there is a full moon  Those 3 homeless guys have been there for many years and they do keep the bridge very clean. Some times they wait for all to leave and they will clean the bridge from the end to the entrance. That's why they haven't got kicked out. The ones that got kicked out were the offenders that were at the footing of the bridge. Word of advise: never to do your necessities under the bridge. There is a restroom within walking distance and is open 24 hours (at times nasty but safer, a lot of lighting around it).

Boca Jetty Rat, another area close by to the RickenBacker is Mercy Hospital. Look it up on Google maps and you will see side street were there are gravel parking spaces so you can have quick fun casting soft or hard baits for trout. You can also see the water depth on the map straight in front is 10' deep but you can cast to the sides on top of the grass flats as well. There are many nice fish in that area and won't take long for you to find out and figure it out.

Hey Nelson, how was the bait situation in there (I know you got some, but was it plentiful?). Was Canitas getting any bait in there as well? (old man with white hair and big cart with about 4 coolers). Thanks

It's a small world you always find someone somewhere......That bridge is sometimes slow but sometimes it is mad crazy. I would not buy food there, only things that come out of a can or a bottle. At least you all got some nice air and some tight lines even if throwbacks... :toast:

Went to the Rick yesterday from about 4:30pm - Midnight Didn't catch any keepers got a small mangrove about 9" or so and my sister caught just about every lizard fish there was in the ocean.
I threw the cast net a few times and came up with 1 large shrimp and 1 small crab.
Hopefully later on in the week it should start getting better.
Also went by the marina on 27 for bait and didn't see any. Hopefully the new moon will start bringing in the bait.
Tight Lines,
Alex
