Was fishing by the seawall close to the lighthouse and on P7 on 2/21 from 1-5 pm...
Nothing but small snappers and some keepers mixed in between, there was quite a long line at the entrance and the park was full of googans using yoyos, lol.

I was out there yesterday @ around 10:30. The park was empty. I went to P8 and step up. At first, no bait fish at all. I landed a small grunt, cut it in half and hooked the head on my new Penn Battle. Hoping to get a nice hit so I can see if this reel can do what it claims, but no luck. After an hour or so went towards the seawall near the lighthouse and at least there I landed 6 red groupers all under sized. To my surprise, only lost 2 set ups to the rocks below. For me that is a Bill Baggs world record. LOL Well going to have to wait for Mr. Battle to see what he is made of in the Keys, hopefully in the near future.

Who's Ron?? Is it PP? Just to know and ask him which model of battle did he purchased.

Good point to test out the new reel. Ron has 2 new Penn Battle. Ron, bring them down to test them on the poons! :reeling:[/quote]

Cool thanks for the info guys, been there a couple times these past 2 weeks...I work at Jackson so I try and make it for a cpl hours after work...tons of 10-12 inch grovers at the platform closest to the lighthouse (especially ~6-6.30 at night), saw a nice snook cruisin the rocks and a couple of baby groupers...yesterday jacks were caught. havent seen that mutton ive been after, but would take a permit for sure... still working it.

also, every time, and I mean EVERY time i cast out more than 10 ft from the platform i get seaweed. Is that just the time of day? when is the best time to avoid it? all the tourists get so excited for me and then laugh when i bring up 5 lbs worth of salad...thanks for the info.

last year bill baggs weed festival lasted about two months, there's was no way possible to fish around that time, so if I keep hearing weed reports I will be casting sinkers and lubing my reels until they are gone.

by the way any of you guys like to use sandfleas? i went to haulover 2 weeks ago to pick some and they were vanished, is there a season or they are 365 days a year?

cool ... thanks. I allways pick them up at sunset on low tide, and allways at the same spot, but the last time they were vanished, i will try the low tide early morning then.

from 2pm to 5:45 pm

another classic south florida day, blue water, sun shining, clear sky, lots of weed and no fish, well managed a 12 inch hog snapper that went back into the water to swim another day , there's no way to use the surf rods with so much weed and current.I'll have to change my fishing spot for a couple of months.

fished from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm... bumped into this nice 7 striped sheephead, measured between 15 to 16 inches, weeds are still bugging but not too bad, bite was very slow for so great conditions, another beautifull day out there!!
