I would guess morays wouldnt be to rare since there is a reef right after the first hut, and there are many rocks down there. Heck people have been limiting out on spinys.

If you do go out, try fishing before the first hut and casting straight out. Me and a buddy had the best luck on the pier yesterday from there, but conditions can change.

Went this morning and conditions changed for the worse. A few small mackeral and runners. No pompano no bluefish and no lobsters to be caught.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Today was not too bad... started around 7:00 am and the weather cooperated til around 1:30. Caught 10 Spanish macks, one cero, one robin fish, a silver perch, and a black fin. After that not much else, with the exception of ballyhoo that were out in force. I plan to be out Sunday morning if the weather clears and the wind and current are out from the north-ne.
I almost forgot... I did catch a Cabo pt50 reel while bottom fishing. What are the odds? :reeling:

If you were not at Anglins this morning you missed out on nothing. Pier total 4 keeper pomps along with a handful of shorts and a thousand hand size jacks. Nice short cobia on a Goofy jig but overall a horid wet day of fishing.

The scoop would be look for you as you commercial guys know where to fish. I would say my best advice to give would be to fish right next to Zebco the pomp killing man everytime you see him at Anglins. He is very understanding if you cross his line but please use braid when doing so and also use weights at least half the size he is using.

8) PS.... any State Troopers,.. be on the lookout for a ***** black n white. He usually speeds and is watching porn on his car computer. Be cautious, as he is carrying a loaded out of date apple fritter from DD and will club you over the head.

Well, was at Anglin's today from about 6:30 till 4.
Tommy was nice enough to introduce me to most of the crew, nice meeting you guys, he also hooked it up with a pompano rig and some sand fleas.

Unfortunately i only saw 3 keeper pomps come over the rail the whole time i was there, about 4-5 blues, one of which was from me. And 4 cobia also came up, biggest at around 30".

I hooked onto a ray in the morning that at least gave me some action on a banana jig, and got a blue at around 2pm, and it was jack mania till around noon.

Not the best of days, but glad i could make it out and meet some of you guys.

Unlucky? Ive landed ALL my fish on that setup, this includes 50+ lbs tarpon, it is my go to for every situation! Ive had it since 06, and will only set it aside cuz I want a shiny new one soon! Drag is flawless on mine, its just scuffed up as you would expect from a 6yr old reel.

I think you were one of the lucky ones with the Cabos and got a good batch. I know of several people who have had theirs smoked and the reels are useless now. Ask Whodey how his held up to a run from a smoker kingfish.

Those Cabos seem to have dry drag washers, I always use Penn blue grease or Cal's drag washer grease. It helps on the drag melting problem that leads to worn out gears... Yeah, Rob had a bad one with that king.

Nice to be out there today to enjoy the view and meet with part of the K.W.C. I got to see a pic of the 30" cobia it's nice to know they started running. 8)

2 Keeper pomps for me at daybreak. Both on the jig - after that - nothing except for small jacks, which were entertaining on ultralight....

Home by 10 w lunch....

T - Thanks for the loaner on the rainjacket

I like the smaller cabo's best. Got a good batch myself in the 2500 and 4000 I use have been smoked many many times and I am a big fan of how they hold up. Little to no maintainance and so far so good....

The Drag has never failed on my Cabo 60 its always the gearing, the first time on a hit offshore it just quit oscillating making it impossible to use so after a visit to T&R it was repaired and taken out on Yuri the drag click assembly failed. I was still able to fish it but it just didn't sound the same. Its going to be serviced again then off to Ebay with that POS.

The gearing fails because the drag stops too quickly (it gets too hot and no friction so the gears take it all). When you take them apart is like a brownie cake of washers and drags. I guess those reels are meant for small fish only. LMAO at the Ebay comment. I guess it's just bad luck.
